Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti – Dates, Life and Activities

Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti is the birthday celebrations of the legendary freedom fighter of India: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Popularly known as Netaji, Subhash Chandra Bose was born to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi on January 23 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa. The birthday is celebrated according to the Gregorian calender i.e January 23rd of every year. This article throws light on the life and activities of Subhash Chandra Bose and the honor observed on his birthday through out India.

Life and Activities: In early days of school Subhash was a brilliant student. He topped the matriculation examination of Calcutta province in 1911 and did his Bachelors in Philosophy from the University of Calcutta. He continued his studies in Fitzwilliam Hall of the University of Cambridge with a high score in civil service exams.
Subhash entered in Indian politics after the Amritsar massacre and started the newspaper swaraj. Netaji worked under C.R. Das, then mayor of Bengal. He encountered so many up and downs in his political life. Several times, Netaji was sent to jail for fighting battle of independence. He became general secretary of the Congress party in mid 1930s and worked with Gandhiji and Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. He took part in civil disobedience movement but he was soon cut off from the mainstream of Indian politics due to idealogical conflicts with Gandhiji.
Nataji was influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and but believed in violence for the justified reason. His slogan was “Give me blood and I will give you the independence.”Netaji faced mysterious death in a plane crash while flying to Tokyo on 18th August 1945.Honoring Netaji: Netaji is remembered for his valuable contribution to Indian Independence. His birthday is observed with great reverence though out India, especially in Orissa and West Bengal. Schools are colleges observe this by conducting several seminars and activities. Young boys and girls are dressed in military uniform and are taken in the procession around the school. Songs composed for independence are sung.
